Laura Barnes has been a band director with Union Public Schools since 2020. Before joining Union, she taught band in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and North Las Vegas, Nevada. Throughout her career, Mrs. Barnes has enjoyed sharing her love of music with students and helping young musicians grow in confidence, creativity, and their appreciation for making music together.

Mrs. Barnes is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education. During her time at OSU, she studied flute with Dr. Virginia Broffitt Kunzer and conducting with Dr. Joseph Missal. She was also an active performer, participating in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Cowboy Marching Band.

Outside of the band room, Mrs. Barnes enjoys spending time with her family. She lives in Tulsa with her husband, Andrew, and their two sons, Frankie and Everett. She is grateful for the opportunity to work with students each day and to be part of the Union Public Schools community.
