PREPARING FOR THE FAIR

WHERE DO I START?

The schools are organized by state/region. We suggest asking yourself a few questions:

  • What are the most important factors for my college experience?

  • What does my ideal school’s faculty, location, curriculum, and student body size look like?

  • What schools have my successful peers attended?

  • Do I want to be near home, far away, or in between?

  • What school(s) have I always wanted to attend?

  • Who can I talk to about the best schools for me? Think about your connections with trusted, friends, family, teachers, directors, etc.

  • What do I want to do after I get my degree?

  • What is my budget for college?

Once you have answered these questions you can start a list of “can’t miss” schools and add to the list based on your important factors.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH SCHOOLS HAVE MY MAJOR?

We encourage you to use the link for each exhibitor to familiarize yourself with the schools. Each school is followed by letters representing the following concentrations:

D = Dance

M = Music

MT = Musical Theater

T = Theater

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I’M AT A COLLEGE’S ‘BOOTH’?

Be prepared to fill out registration info for each school you visit. Once you’re in the Zoom “booth” with your school’s representatives, be ready to introduce yourself, your area of study and year in school.

Come with questions that go beyond the school’s website. Some examples include:

  • What makes your school stand out? What are you known for?

  • What is your favorite thing about your school?

  • What is does a typical day look like for your students?

  • What performance opportunities are there in school and out in the community?

You can ask about admission processes, too:

  • What is your application process like? Is it very different from other schools in terms of requirements and/or auditions?

  • What types of financial aid do you offer?

  • What do your graduates typically do?

“DAY OF” CHECKLIST FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES:

  • On the day of the fair, you can preregister for the schools you would like to visit. Each school has their own link to a Zoom meeting.

  • We want this to feel like an in-person college fair and love to connect face to face. When you are ready to join a call, we encourage you to come in with audio and video.

  • Need a background? We’ll probably have our school background on, but there are countless backgrounds to use. Tell us a little about yourself by using a background from your school, your favorite TV show, movie or video game.
