9:30pm is the approximate finish/release time, depending on the length of the game.
All students should have departed from campus or been picked up within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the final game.
EVENT PROCEDURES
Be ready to play on short notice. We generally play ONLY during time-outs (some are 30 seconds, some are 60) and at the end of quarters.
Be ready to STOP playing on short notice; we cannot play while the game clock is in motion, so watch for the possibility that a directors cuts off the music midstream.
Use the restroom at the appointed times (halftimes and between games), as you won't be permitted to do so otherwise.
If getting a ride home from a parent, etc., call or send them a message during the 4th quarter of the men's game. NOTE: if the game nears the end with a close score, it might take a long time for the game to actually conclude.
Grading
Each assigned date/performance counts as a grade.
Students who are no-show for an assigned event will receive zero credit.
Students may make up a missed assigned performance by attending a subsequent game, but will be awarded only half-credit.
A student may request to swap dates with a peer of the same instrument section and still receive full grading credit, provided that both of the students are aware and agreeable in advance. Swaps must be requested in advance of the event CLICK HERE. Approved requests will not show as updated on the Canvas roster.
UNION High School Concert Bands
Union Bands prides itself on the exemplary work that students invest in the concert band program. At the high school level, students audition into one of five leveled concert bands. Numerous opportunities are available for students to raise their musicianship in a variety of ways. Students are encouraged to participate in as many band-sponsored concert band activities as possible, including district & state honor band auditions, solo & ensemble (chamber music) festivals, and private lessons. The 1st Class Period at Union H.S. begins at 8:35am daily. Students participating in Marching Band begin at 7:00am daily during the fall competitive season. Morning Transportation
BEFORE SCHOOL
Freshman students utilize two basic options for transportation to Union High School each morning:
Ride by car with a parent, sibling, or older peer, etc.
Renegade Regiment students must arrive at campus via this method
Dropping-off at, or picking-up students up at, the UHS Band Building by way of the Bus Loop is not permitted at times when the loop is occupied by buses. Please avoid the hours of 8-8:45am and 3:00-4:00pm. We encourage use of an alternate location for pick-up/drop-off; suggestion: the drive of Union HS’s South Entry, with the drop point just west of the Football Stadium main entry.
Ride the High School bus route that serves their neighborhood. To find the correct route and bus stop click Here
Enter your home address and select UNION HIGH SCHOOL in the drop-down menu that shows “All Grades and Schools”)
Please note:
Your neighborhood's Freshman Academy bus route will not provide transportation to the UHS campus.
Shuttle transportation from the Union Freshman Academy to Union High School before first period class is NOT available (Renegade Regiment students must arrange for their own daily transportation throughout the fall competitive season, which ends on Oct 28).
Inter-Campus Shuttle Transportation After First Period
All freshman students will ride a shuttle bus from Union High School to the Union Freshmen Academy at end of 1st period band class rehearsals, daily. This shuttle departs at 9:25am [9:20am on Early Release Fridays] and arrives at the UFA just prior to the beginning of 2nd period class. Shuttle Bus #’s are 09, 25, 26, 37, 41 & 45 (#’s are subject to change).
In the event that a freshman student misses the shuttle bus, he/she should NEVER: walk to the UFA, nor ride in a peer-driven vehicle without permission of both the driver and rider. The student should communicate to a teacher about the missed bus, and efforts will be made for the student to ride a secondary specially-scheduled bus.
Afternoon
Inter-Campus Shuttle Transportation
A shuttle bus runs daily from the Freshman Academy to the High School campus after school for Freshman students participating in scheduled afternoon rehearsals and events. Bus #40 is generally the first bus in the UFA bus loop queue; departure is shortly after the school day ends at 3:27pm.
For Fall Semester Home Football Games, NonComp Freshmen will ride on the final bus positioned in the UFA bus loop; Renegade Regiment Freshmen will ride bus #40 at the front of the loop.
