MACY*S TRIP UPDATE MEETING: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17 on ZOOM

Registration for the Union H.S. Renegade Regiment’s trip to New York City for the 2021 Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade opened a few weeks ago! We want to share more info with students and parents about what will happen during the trip next year: where we’ll go, what we’ll see, and what we’ll do. We know that this is a an experience that no student will want to miss, and next Thursday night, Dec. 17 at 7:00pm we’re going to tell you WHY! Be looking next week for for meeting info (Zoom link). UPDATE: In-Person Class Rehearsals during Distance Learning

We’ve had a good first week of a new approach: In-Person Union H.S. band class rehearsals during the Union district’s distance learning model. Students may choose how they participate in band rehearsals, whether from home via Zoom or on-campus, or in-person. All details on how is approach works is available in Canvas. Special thanks to parents for helping your student get to & from in-person band rehearsals. Please contact your student’s band class teacher with specific questions.

1st Period Band Class Students and Parents will receive Remind messages from two subscription codes:

  • @UhsBands1h provides general information as applicable to band students enrolled in 1st Period Band. This Remind code was established in August 2020 and already has many subscribers; please continue to subscribe to messages from this code.

  • an ensemble-specific code; as of Dec. 1, all first period band students now meet in one of two smaller groups, and will accordingly receive Remind messages as pertinent to their assigned ensemble.

    • @UhsSband is the subscription code for Symphonic Band class students; this class is led by Mrs. Lollis

    • @UhsCband is the subscription code for Concert Band class students; this class is led by Mrs. Ayers & Mrs. Barnes.

2nd Period Band Class Students and Parents will continue to receive Remind updates using subscription code @UhsBands2h

All subscribers to Remind code @UhsBands will continue to receive messages as pertinent to the Union H.S. Band program in general.

Distance Learning Plan for High School Band Students

1st Hour Band Distance Learning: Dec. 7-16

SCHEDULE

  • Mondays & Wednesdays: Dec. 7, 9, 14, 16

  • 8:10-9:00am

LOCATIONS

  • In-Person at the Union H.S. Band Room

  • Online-Synchronous via Zoom

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

  • Attendance is required (whether In-Person or Zoom)

    • Any student who is unable to attend class (either in-person or Zoom) must contact the teacher via email or Canvas Messenger to communicate about the absence.

  • For students choosing In-Person Class Rehearsals:

    • Transportation to & from rehearsals is on-your-own.

    • Students will enter the building via the quad-glass doors into the UHS Fine Arts area, located on the Bus Loop.

    • Doors will not open prior to 7:45am, and will be open no later than 8:00am. Doors will be locked by 8:15am, so timely arrival is critical.

    • Students must depart the campus at the conclusion of rehearsal, doing so by 9:15am. Loitering on the campus, whether inside or outside of the building, is not allowed.

    • Any student driving himself or herself to campus will park in the northeast-most part of the campus (nearest the Union Collegiate Academy entrance); parking nor entering/exiting the building from the south is permitted.

    • All standard safety protocols must be practiced: distancing, regular masking for percussionists, slotted masks for winds, shields for flutes, bell covers for brasses, absorption pads for brass water keys/spit valves.

    • The student must have his/her instrument, print music, and a pencil for use in the rehearsal.

  • For students choosing Synchronous (Zoom) Rehearsals:

    • The student's device camera must be turned on during the entire rehearsal.

    • The student must have his/her instrument, print music, and a pencil for use in the rehearsal.
