Where does the membership money go?

The membership dollars go in to the UBPC general fund.  This account is used to fund various expenses that we do not want to have to charge in regular student fees.

What do the UBPC members do?

UBPC members are mostly parents that want the best band experience for their students.  The band parent/UBPC member experience is different for everyone, depending on the amount of time each person has available to commit.  Generally speaking, members volunteer, attend UBPC meetings, fundraise, watch practices together, help with special events, travel with the band, chaperone on trips, provide hospitality for judges and other events, make friends with other parents and cheer on the band.  UBPC members are there to answer questions (especially for 1st year marching students – yikes!) and support you when your student graduates (try not to think about it – it will be here before you know it!)

Company donations or donation matching

Some companies will match or donate if you volunteer! Don’t hesitate to ask! Some of our band parents have received hundreds of dollars in donations just by asking!

We have a lot of things coming up - take the time to check in with your employer and see if they are able to provide any donations or do donation matching? Many companies have money set aside for gifting to non-profits. This would be a tremendous help and keep our pockets from continuously being empty!

We can put together a donation sheet - an idea is to include shout outs in our Weekly Beats of the company that donates. We may even be able to put sponsors on our shirts. Ideas I will have to run by the board - but look for more information on that soon!

we need you!

MARJORIE HALL HONORED WITH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT RECOGNTION

The students & staff of the Union Bands, and the leadership & volunteers of the Union Band Parents Club are proud to report the recent special recognition of UBPC’s immediate past President Marjorie Hall, recipient of the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding volunteer service.

The mother of four students who have participated as performing members of the Union Bands and Guard programs, Marjorie has held numerous service and leadership positions in the Union Band Parents Club, including Fundraising Coordinator, Chief Operating Officer, and President. During her service tenure of 10+ years, Marjorie has invested boundless energy and countless hours in the students and mission of the Union Bands and the UBPC.

Recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award must amass no fewer than 4000 hours of cumulative service; Marjorie is estimated to have served more than 10,000 hours in her volunteer roles with UBPC. Marjorie was presented the special award bearing the signature of President Biden at the annual Union Bands awards banquet in mid-May 2024.

Director of Union Bands Charles Pisarra recently remarked about Hall’s legacy as a member of the Union community. “An uncommonly high-capacity leader, Marjorie has left an indelible mark of passionate service to the Union Bands & UBPC, creating policies & systems of accountability & transparency, building capable teams of empowered volunteers, and most of all: loving kids, always keeping our students’ best interests at the core of all she does,” said Pisarra.

Marjorie continues to serve in an unelected, unofficial role, providing guidance & support to the new UBPC leadership team, and by working behind-the-scenes on the organization’s software systems, including execution of critical technical steps required in an significant transition to a new master database platform.

The Union Bands will forever be grateful to Marjorie Hall, a servant leader of highest character, outstanding work ethic, & immense love for people.
