Mr. Garett Dwyer, Union Percussion Director

Garett Dwyer is the Percussion Specialist at Union Public Schools in Tulsa, OK. He holds a bachelor's degree in Percussion Performance from the Indiana University (IU) Jacobs School of Music. During his time at IU, he studied Latin American drumming, Jazz vibraphone, and R&B under the direction of Michael Spiro, Steve Houghton, Joseph Gramley, among many others.

Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Garett was a busy percussionist prior to his time in Indiana. His summers were full of percussion-related camps, masterclasses, and competitions. Most notably Garett was invited to perform as a cast member for the the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps for their 2018 and 2019 tours, and to study at The Juilliard School in 2017.

During his undergraduate Garett was heavily involved in gigging and teaching persuasion to many students around the Bloomington, IN area. Garett is the Percussion Coordinator for Zephyrus Drum & Bugle Corps (Bixby, OK) and helped lead Edgewood Highschool (Ellettsville, IN) to their first IPA PSA State Championship in the 2022 season as the Front Ensemble Coordinator. Recently, Garett has worked with artists such as Bootsy Collins, Kenneth " Babyface" Edmonds, and is frequently in the recording studio.

A NOTE FROM FEED THE BAND:

Food Allergies/Dietary Restrictions

It is our desire to take great care of your student at all times, and we want to make sure they always have safe food to eat at every band snack and meal. In order for us to accommodate a food allergy or dietary restriction of any kind (this includes vegetarians/vegans, and those who follow religious guidelines regarding food, but should not be used for foods that your child simply doesn’t like) you MUST LOG IN TO CHARMS TO LET US KNOW. If you have not indicated your child’s special dietary needs in CHARMS, we have no way of knowing and will not have alternative foods for them.

*If your child has a peanut allergy, please indicate in CHARMS if they can/cannot eat meals from Chick-fil-A. Chick-fil-A uses peanut oil in their fryers.

For example, FOOD ALLERGIES: All Tree Nuts/Peanuts, cannot eat Chick-fil-A.

To update information in CHARMS, log in to your student’s account. From the HOME page, click on the icon that says UPDATE INFO. Once on the STUDENT INFO page, fill in the box next to FOOD ALLERGIES. Be sure to click the green UPDATE button when you are finished.

If your child has an allergy that requires special attention, please feel free to contact Katie Geier, UBPC Food Allergy Coordinator, at foodallergies@unionbands.com to discuss your concerns.

Renegade Regiment Volunteer Signup

(Section Parents and Chaperones, too!)

image.png

We want to be our best, and to do that, we have to support our program with the best volunteer effort.  Your directors, staff, and UPBC officers work tirelessly to enable and elevate and we will find a way that you can contribute your gifts, talents and efforts to our students' success. You have something to give, and we can use all the help we can get.

Our volunteer interest survey is a great way to connect to the needs we have.  We love for people to raise their hand and step forward to be part of something bigger than themselves.  None of these volunteer tasks are accomplished alone, we expect to help each other do this as a team, and everyone is supported, guided, and backed up by other experienced volunteers and UPBC Board Members.  We love new people!

Please fill out our volunteer interest survey at this link and consider how you can help. Click here to submit

Two immediate needs we want to address are Section Parents and Chaperones for the upcoming year.  Descriptions for these roles are shown on the survey, and if you have any questions, please let us know. Section Parent applications are due June 30, because we want to go into our summer rehearsals ready, so please sign up now!

Please consider investing your time as a volunteer, and let us know if you have any questions.  And thank you for everything you do for the Union Bands program.
